Lidya Buzio
Artist's Bio
Untitled Roofscape, 1986. Terracotta, 11.5 x 15.75 x 15.5 in.
This is Lidya Buzio's art at its very best. The vessel form is large, indeed the largest work in terms of diameter that she has made. Created in 1986, it was part of the exhibition "Hispanic Art in the United States", a hugely successful event that travelled the US and Mexico from 1987-89. and was organized by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. The piece is illustrated in color in the accompanying book on page 109. The piece is accomplished and magical allowing the Soho roofscape to breathe and take shape within the form. The color could not be more intense and powerful. Most of the works from this series were acquired by museums that were part of the tour and so having this piece turn up on the market is rare.
